Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson; for always lingering music

I'm sad to read today that the wonderful musician Peter Christopherson has passed away.  Making music in bands like Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and Coil has had and have great influence in my life. Often you can hear music of these bands here on my blog.

Records and books

Just for fun i've started a new blog where i will post the records i have collected thru the years. I have a very open music taste so the posts will vary from (modern) classic to rock to industrial and everything in between. Also i'll post some curiosa sleeves i collect. The music isn't good, sometimes it's funny, i just bought these kind of records because of the curiosity factor. So check it out here.

I've just received a copy of my Blurb book Silent echoes and i'm very, very pleased with it. It just looks great and very professional. ;-)

Then finally i have the right form for my website. Maybe it need some little improvements but i'm very pleased with the basics so far. Now i can upload my work there if i can find the time.

Young @ heart

The post of Caio about his music influences was great. His 'getting older' in the title and his writing about The Ramones did me think about the Ramones cover by the Young @ heart choir. A great choir of elder people singing songs from Nirvana, the Clash and the Ramones. The movie about this choir was big fun and moving as well. These people shows us that you still can be alive and kicking when over 70 years of age.

Black birds * The movie ;-)

I just discovered a video editing program and it's such fun. Because it's difficult to see all the details on my large drawings i upload, i thought it would be fun to film all the details of the drawing. But the quality isn't that good, some bits are over-exposed. And i find out that i dón't have to film one big shot, but can do tiny parts and put that together haha. But still, i love this first try out and i hope i can transmit to you the atmosphere i had in mind. I promiss you: the next round i make a little movie it will be of a better quality.

I also did the soundscape (music). A soundscape is just like a collage but in stead of cutting and glueing images i do it with sounds and music. Sounds of the television or radio and i used the 9th symphony from Beethoven for the underlaying basic looping sound. I hope you enjoy it! Don't forget to stop my How do u dream jukebox. ;-)

Creative tribute

The most wonderful, creative and funny tribute to Michael Jackson (yeah i know, overkill etc.... but i couldn't resist this one) comes from Studio Brussel. Check out their Eternal moonwalk. And it's interactive, so you also can be creative and make your own idea of a moonwalk.

A sudden awareness of the phenomenon

I am/wasn't a huge fan of Michael Jackson. I mean the kind of devoted fan who screams when seeing him or reading everything about him etc... But i like his music a lot and i think he's a genius in performing. The news of his death shocked me and i was suprised that i even shed some tears. Because of his tragic life ánd i realized that his music coloured my younger days. It did although i preferred other music styles. His music touched me somehow. I remember the first time i saw the thriller video; it was so exciting and new. And i even more remember the clip of beat it. Such a yummie clip i thought because of the bad guys in it and they were dancing so sexy. Michael Jackon as radiant centre. He was happy when performing but i always thought his eyes looks so sad on photographs.

Today he's still inspiring musicians and dancers. And the kids of today also know his music. My eldest son, he's 13 now, finds Michael Jackson always a bit scary because of his looks. He wasn't very interested in Michael Jackson. But today there were many Michael Jackson clips on television. We were watching it together. "Oh mum, he really is very cool, isn't he?" "Yes sweety, he is." And i noticed my sons sudden awareness of the phenomenon Michael Jackson. Ofcourse he isn't aware of the scandals around Michael Jackson for the last years and i don't want to disturb him with it. He watched more videos for almost an hour. And i was wondering how it could be that the man who touched so many hearts all over the world died as a very lonely human being.

My son was very impressed by the earthsong video. And i agree with him, it's a beautiful song and a great video. Ofcourse at the end of his life he was a very eccentric man, but hey first stone, holier than the pope etc.... Michael Jackson left the world some wonderful music and i thank him for that.

Sinister beauty

Two old doodles waiting to be worked out. I draw these doodles while listening to the music of Diamanda Galas. Her music is of a sinister beauty and she produces the most strange, enchanting but also disturbing intonations. The homeless man, descending to the darkest corners of his soul. For the sake of clearness: Diamanda Galas is NOT a satanist or something like that. Neither am i, i believe in love and light. She uses dramatic, piercing ways to express herself. To transcribe her message. I think she's wonderful!
