The mysterious world of MONICA CROESE

22.3.10

An uneasy one?

I draw and paint to express my feelings. Sometimes also hard, difficult feelings from the past. Or things i notice, what's going on in the world. I do not create to make beautiful images. I create to tell a story. Sometimes the story is beautiful, sometimes harsh or both sweet and dark at the same time. Is that possible? I think so. There's also a form of beauty in dark stories. I can imagine that the images from my 'Is that blood on the floor?' series can cause un uneasy feeling. That's not my goal btw, but i'm aware of it. I will not explain what it's about, i think everybody can make his own story. But it's about women and these women are one way or another strong women, not victims.

Maybe its an uneasy painting for someone with uneasy feelings but i love it.
You paint strong stories right from your heart and thats great. Strong stories about strong woman, like in real life.

Mooi!

A hug for you and good luck with the detox.

Hi Annie, dat hoort er bij en inderdaad zonder donker geen licht. Dank je wel voor je lieve reactie. :-)

i think bringing out to the surface through expression all of the sadness and darkness inherent in living is the only way to expunge it and not be afraid of it. this is very valuable. and i love that you are so true in your vision, momo.

It is a disturbing image, Momo but it is also aesthetically pleasing.

My eyes move from the mark on her belly through to the gash on her shortened arm to her face that looks strangely accepting and then onto the blood on the floor.

The image stays with me, even now long after I have looked at it. This is powerful work, Momo, even if it is disturbing. It needs to be. It's about a dark, disturbing subject. Thank you.

But isn't it part of what art is about, to point out the things that people need to notice, especially if it's uncomfortable or dark. We tap into what is universal in the human condition by what we do. If it makes people uncomfortable then we know we, as artists, have got it right.

Thank you JB, and i recognize what you say about simular feelings. :-)

Thank you Laura for your sweet comment. And not being afraid of it, yes that's true. Sometimes i think i tame my demons by painting or drawing. :-)

Thank you so much Elisabeth. Your thoughtful comment makes me thinking it over. You're right about a disturbing image, but pleasing the eyes. Often i disguise a harsh truth. When i was a singer in a band i did that also with words. Using a nice melody and sweet voice singing about fears and darkness and vice versa also. I also teel people that the angels in my work are malicious and the demons innocent.
Thank you again.....

I agree with you Whitney-anne and i never hold myself back when drawing or painting. But afterwards i sometimes hope that i don't offend people, 'cause that's not my intention. But also i rather want people feeling uncomfortable with my art than indifferent. :-)
Tnx!

the women of your universe are always about fertility , sensuality , pain , blood ... RED .
you're hot . and scary for mans too . mans get scared sometimes with some female's things .
atactive and repulsive . so ... VIOLENTLY FEMME !!

now i am trying to imagine the size of your boobs....
are they the size of the ones of this drawing ?
wow !! it is better for me to stop .

Yes that's true Caio, about the items i use in my work. Red is besides purple my favourite colour. And pain, blood, sensuality that's all about me. Scary?? I hope not, i am a very sweet and friendly woman! (and now i'm teasing you) I like that: violently femme.
Haha the size of my boobs.... i keep my mouth shut. But i always (or most of the time) use the female shape i can identify with. ;-) And it's such fun teasing you.
